Democratic Rep. Tony Cardenas of California received’t search reelection in 2024.
Cardenas’ district, California’s twenty ninth, is within the San Fernando Valley and is solidly blue. The congressman has represented the Los Angeles County district since 2013. The transfer makes Cardenas the most recent in a string of members of Congress who’ve opted to not run once more in latest months.
The California Democrat, who’s a former state assemblyman and Los Angeles metropolis councilmember, serves on the Home Committee on Power and Commerce.
Enrique Gutierrez, a spokesman for the congressman, confirmed Cardenas’ determination to not run for reelection to CNN.
The Los Angeles Instances was first to report the information.
Home Democratic chief Hakeem Jeffries launched an announcement reacting to the information, saying, “Because the son of hardworking immigrants who grew to become the primary Latino member of Congress from the Valley, Tony really embodies the American Dream.”
“Tony will likely be significantly missed within the Folks’s Home and I want him and his household the most effective on this new chapter,” Jeffries mentioned.
